It’s has been announced that the Carlisle Western Bypass or Northern Development Route is to open next Tuesday (14th Feb).

The road, which will traffic relief to Hardwicke Circus and provide a connection to the M6 motorway from the west of the county.

The road was due to be opened in April of this year but has been mostly finished since the middle of January.

It’s never normal to get excited about a road being built but seeing how I live to the west of the city its going to literally change my commuting.

So, if you like biking down it or walking your dog on it whilst it is still shut, you’d better get your skates on this weekend.

Update – If you haven’t seen it yet check out some pictures of it I took in January prior to opening on Flickr.
