We Are The People And This Is Our Death Star

Last year, the White House (U.S.) launched a Web site – called “We the People”  – where citizens could write online petitions. If the petition gained 25,000 signatures within 30 days of submission, the White House would issue a response.

The latest one which made the news, was a petition asking the U.S Administration to build a real Earth orbiting Death Star – like in Star Wars.

The response entitled ‘This Isn’t The Petition Response You’re Looking For’, was a jokey retort on behalf of the Administration.

It mentioned amongst other things, that whilst the U.S was looking to ‘maintain a strong national defense’, a Death Star was estimated to cost more than $850,000,000,000,000,000 and would do nothing to reduce the U.S. deficit.

Osly stallone judge dredd 1995ther petitions submitted to ‘We Are The People’ include :
“to dissolve the current legal system and replace it with a single Hall of Justice, run by Judges; motorcycle-riding law officers who act as police, judge, jury, and executioner.” – So the spirit of Judge Dredd is seemingly alive.

Another asks that American military personnel be allowed to walk around with their hands in their pockets. The petition states that “It must be acknowledged that placing one’s hands in one’s pockets is not a sign of disrepect….”.

Another asks the White House to enact a law that allows U.S. college students to return their diplomas - for a 100 percent refund.

There is even one which requests Obama himself is impeached. Although, why it has been submitted to an Obama funded initiative, is unclear.

None of these petitions have, at time of writing – gained enough signatures to warrant a response, (if they ever will!). But it probably shows Democracy in action – even if it is usually hijacked by the outlandish and insane.
