Carlisle Castle is currently the setting for the filming of an American TV series called “Outlander”.
Described as a cross between romance, action and science-fiction TV drama series; Outlander is using the Castle for scenes set in the 17th century.
I have to admit, when I heard they were filming a production called Outlander here, I thought it must be a sequel to similarly named 2007 Jim Caviezel time travelling Sci-Fi flick.
Not so, as some googling later turned up an eight-book Outlander series of books by American author Diana Gabaldon and a TV season One, which we don’t get here in the UK.
Outlander follows the story of a female time-travelling ex-combat nurse, who is mysteriously swept back to 1743, where she is forced to marry a Scottish warrior.
Passing the castle today, I took this photo of some of the cast undergoing some kind of early morning boot camp :
The series has been described as a contemporary of Game of Thrones, the hit HBO series.
Outlander has ran for one season on Starz network in the U.S. but has yet to find a UK broadcaster.
