ANP suspends fuel quality monitoring contracts due to lack of resources

Budget cuts made by the federal government led the National Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANP) to suspend contracts with laboratories under the Fuel Quality Monitoring Program (PMQC), which will be resumed in January 2025, the agency reported. .
“During the period, the ANP’s inspection actions in the fuel market will continue normally throughout the country. The fuel samples collected in these actions will be analyzed by the ANP’s own laboratory, the Center for Research and Technological Analysis (CPT), located in Brasília “, informed the ANP.
PMQC is a statistical program that monitors the national fuel market and points out compliance indices, providing an overview of the universe of this market. It is carried out by universities and research institutes contracted by the agency, in addition to the CPT/ANP itself.
According to the agency, inspection actions use the PMQC and several other intelligence vectors (such as product movement data, complaints to the ANP Ombudsman’s Office, information from other public bodies, etc.) to carry out planning, identifying locations with signs of irregularities and focusing actions on them.
The period of suspension of contracts coincides with the end of the mandate of the current director general of the ANP, Rodolfo Sabóia, who leaves his position on December 22nd. If the nomination of the Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, prevails, the next name to command the agency will be that of the current Secretary of Oil and Natural Gas of the MME and president of the Board of Directors of Petrobras, Pietro Mendes.
